Project Description

The easement held by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife protects the farm’s significant ecological values and ensures that the public will have access to portions of the property that do not intrude on the farmstead. Hikers can enjoy more than 2.5 miles of trails up Bell’s and Crane mountains, with outcrops that offer vantage points overlooking the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge and Big Meadow Pond. The property adjoins Cobscook Bay State Park, and lies just across the water from Commissary Point which the Land for Maine’s Future (LMF) Program helped to acquire.

The LMF Program funded purchase of the easement on Tide Mill Farms, which was completed thanks to the initiative of the Bell family and the cooperative efforts of Quoddy Regional Land Trust and Maine Coast Heritage Trust.

The property is featured in a regional trail guide, Cobscook Trails, that is available at area businesses or through the Quoddy Regional Land Trust (207-733-5509) or email QRLT.
